I recently began experimenting a little to see if i could improve my accuracy and consistency. I shoot spilt fingers and I have found that if i take a deep hook with my shooting glove {string in the groove of my first finger joint}, it helps me hold the bow steady for good follow through. I also keep my thumb up {pressed against the top of my jawbone] as it gives me a consistent anchor point. I like the results i am seeing. If i allow the bowstring to rest on the pads of my fingers, i dont get a consistent release.

One reason I think the deep hook is better is that it makes it possible to more easily pull the string comfortably. If you can feel comfortable with the sting being pulled to the anchor point then you have half of the battle won. The second part of the equation is to allow the string to slide from the fingers with out moving the pulling hand from the anchor point.

Also the deep hook allows the back of the hand to relax under stress and your release will be cleaner and your drawing arm will recoil in line with the shot better.
With the two point anchor it keeps the head angle to the string consistent as well as the draw length. You should definitely stay with it.

Wildman - that's an old style from the 40-50's They used to call it picking up the string. Great if you can not move and haven't an arrow nocked already. Also some of the old guys used to put their pinky out like drinking tea British style. They said it kept allowed them to roll the string toward the riser and helped them keep the arrow on the shelf or their knuckles.
Woody - I have never seen you shoot anything but a deep hook except on Sunday when ya came over. Ya straightened yourself out quick though.

I've been a "Freestyle Limited" fingers shooter since the early 60s.
The last time I shot a shooting glove was when I was a little kid around 1961.
I've shot tabs ever since, with the string as far out on my fingertips as I can get it.
And many times when I'm hunting I shoot bare fingered or with whatever gloves I might be wearing. I do practice shooting bare fingered and with hunting gloves just to see the difference against my tabs.

CJ... it looks like you use a semi deep hook - but very light on your first (pointing) finger - I draw similar - very heavy on the bottom as I find it easiest to control a shot this way. I do use a deep hook on my bottom 2 fingers though...Good pics!

Doug, i noticed something funny this evening, when i keep my pinky extended, it prevents me from really curling my other 3 fingers around the string and getting a solid deep hook. The string rests further out toward the finger tips. When i curl in my pinky with the other fingers, my contact with the string is solid and i can anchor solidly. i think this may be the difference I was experiencing. I feel super confident that a deer is in serious trouble this season.
