    first shot with my recurve!

well after a first day saturday with not a sighting i was wondering if this morning would be any better. I was in the stand way before light and was going over in my head to draw then bend, draw then bend, shoot. I had it and was only needing a deer to make it work. My bro n law was in tree with me to video and no sooner had the feeder went off did he say get ready. 50 yrds away came out a doe with 2 yearlings coming in fast. They get 30 out and she starts freaking out and knows something is not right, yet the corn was too much to resist. She gets 8 yrds and I come to full draw with my bob lee and pick a spot and let her fly. OH shoot, I forgot to draw then bend, i just drew and shot. RIght over her back. I was totally at fault. I told my bro n law that i just blew it and to prove it there was a leaf at 15 yrds that I drew and then bent and put the magnus right in the center of it. Oh well. u learn from your mistakes. PJ

Well I didn't see a single deer from my stand all weekend. I did see a deer as I walked to the truck this morning though. I guess they are hitting the acorns.

Stick with it DR. I have been doing this for quite a while and I shot over a doe Sat morning too. Luckily, they came right back in and the second arrow found its mark on a mature 103# doe.

See ya later and good luck,

          Bisch

DR it happens to all of us! The longer you hunt the more it will happen.. I have hunted with a stick and string for over 30 years now and can tell ya from experience that the misses will only make you a better hunter. If you can hit your mark each and every time were do you have to go but down... we (The ones who miss - myself included) can only get better cause there is always going to be room for improvement. Good luck on the next one! Better yet--- "go get em"

dr - you need to set up a tree seat where you can practice shooting from it so you can tell the difference from a seated position shooting down and a standing position

from the other practice thread: ground vs height:
another problem with shooting from a sitting position- from a tree stand, stool on the ground (inside a blind), etc... is your draw length will shorten up from a good standing position
you need to practice the shots you intend to use so you can compensate for the different positions

and all I gotta say is...
I've done the same thing more than once !!

I have found a steep ditch near my house that is about 10feet deep. I set my fake deer target in the bottom of the ditch and then stand or sit on the top bank of the ditch to give me the elevated shot. This works great.
