    Explain to me about broadheads

Can someone tell me why a razor sharp slick trick cope trick or other shorter in length broadheads will not perform when used on trad gear. I get the old 3 to 1 ratio thing but it does not make sense to me that if I put a sharp broadhead in the vitals why does it truly matter?

You need a cut on contact because the lower KE produced by a trad bow makes it tougher to push a chisel point into an animal.

For you it really does not matter because you shoot 60#. At any draw weight though, a cut on contact head is going to slide through easire than a chisel point, all other things being equal.

I don't see why not either. You need to just try one and see for yourself.

Been a while since I read them, but I believe the Ashby reports favor not only cut on contact broadheads but also two-blade, single bevel ones for the superior bone-breaking characteristics if such a hit should occur. (Also advocates 650-plus-grain arrows and 19-plus percent FOC).

I used the modular blade 160gr thunderheads for a long time, and they worked great. I also used some muzzy modular blade heads some, and they worked great also, but I liked the thunderheads better.

The only reason I quit using the thunderheads is because they stopped making the heavy ones.

If I were going to use any of the "trick" models, I would probably use the vipertrick, because the transition from the trocar tip to the blades is shorter.

SS Lutz ® blades, 7/8” bleeder blades and Alcatraz™ Bladelock system all married with laser-like flight characteristics you have come to expect from Slick Trick

I came real close to using the Razor Tricks with my trad bows this year but they have been discontinued.

They work on my 65 to 70# light weight bows also.

Got a buddy who shoots the 150gr non vented 3 blade VPA heads with 42#. Those heads are short like these modular heads are, and he gets full penetration with them.

Those trocar tips ARE basically cut on contact, and with a little mild filing they can be very sharp.

Rick, I thought they started makin the heavy Thunderheads again, like maybe a 150 gr.? May be mistaken, but coulda swore I read/heard that somewhere. I shot the 125's since they first came (which is a while!), until I went to Stingers bout 5 yrs ago. God Bless, Rusty

Rusty, to be honest I haven't checked on them in a long time. Maybe they did start making them again.

I've been shooting the VPA 3 blade heads for a number of years now. I like them a lot, and have enough on hand to keep me from needing new ones any time soon.
