    Arrow Length

I am new to traditional shooting, and starting to do some research. I was wandering what is the correct arrow length for a 28" draw length?

    Travis,

This is one of those that requires work on your part. You need to find an arrow and cut it down in length (a bit at a time) until you get proper arrow flight. What weight are you shooting on your bow. This is where we need to start first. I know there are many who will chime in any time now and all will be very helpful in gettiing the right arrow and the proper spine/length for your setup.

Travis, just listen to Doug and do just as he says. I have learned a lot from 'Ol Man' and many others on this board. Your gonna do fine...

Oh and welcome to the trad world...

About 1/2" to an inch beyond draw length to the back of point is preferred. As long as you have finger clearance so as to not cut your kanuckle.

TBryan, As Ol Man said, there is more info needed to answer your question. The right arrow length is the length that tunes correctly for your bow. It depends on the spine of your arrow and the draw weight you are pulling. I have found that aluminum arrows are the easiest to get tuned in just right. Carbons are more of a pain to tune just right ( I asume this is because they have a relatively wide spine range; usually 10-15#). But many people like carbons because they dont bend. The key is to get the RIGHT arrow for your set-up. This is done by trial and error. You have to start with an arrow and play with the length and point weight to get it just right. The best way to accomplish this if you are new to Trad shooting is to get with an experienced Trad shooter in your area and have him teach you tuning methods.

          See ya later,

          Bisch

Your draw length will most likely drop a little when you start shooting trad.

I always make my arrows 1" longer than the draw length for finger clearance and do the tuning with different weight points. I keep field points and broadheads in weights from 125 to 200 gr. and just tune with point weight. It has worked well for the last 45 yrs. so I'm not changing now.
