    Recurve ?

I shoot a 58lb at 58" recurve, I would like to reduce the 58lbs to 55lbs or so. Any way to shave a few pounds off. Increasing the brace heighth? What about a different kind of bow string, I shoot fast flight and a more traditional string that stetches, not sure of the string material. As I get older my fingers hurt with long practice sessions. I know practice less but I cannot help it, shooting the bow is just plain ole fun!

Ferg, If you can find a bowyer in your area he should be able to take 2-3 Lbs off of your recurve by shaving the limbs. A longbow can have more weight removed than a recurve. I had to have this done to my recurve and Bob Sarrels of Sarrels a=Archery in Austin did it for me.

My bow is a Bob Lee, and I know Bob and Rob well. When they made my bow they sent if off and had some sort of throw down camo put on it, I sure like it but they do not offer that service any longer, so shaving the limbs is not an option unless I want to redo the camo on the limbs.

Ferg, replacing the string or changing brace height will not lower poundage. The only option you have is to either get new limbs,or a new bow.

Freg, If you can make it through this season with what you've got, I know a bowyer in Indiana that has done this operation countless times. He owes me a favor. If you are still interested at the end of the season, drop me an e-mail or call me on 434-927-5155 and I'll set things up for you. Tom
