I have good luck with a field point and a small adder point. They are cheap and work great

You can just use a 5/32" screw and 5/32" wing nuts, put the little bolt through the wing nut and screw it into your arrow. You can adjust the weight by putting nuts on the bolt before you screw it into the arrow. Cost is less than a dime a head. You can file the wings sharp.
        I like that

            The "Hammer" blunts
Check out the deal on The "Hammer™" Screw-In Small Game Blunts, 3-Pack at 3Rivers Archery Supply

Try and make a long story short. I liked the G5 Small Game Heads when I was shooting with a compound, but I had less than stellar results with them shooting from my recurve. I litterally bounced one off a jack and wounded a cotton tail before I finally gave up on them and decided to just use my heavier arrows with the 175 gr Zwickeys. Fortunately, the Zwickeys were bombproof and when I connected, it was almost immediately fatal. I missed plenty and fortunately didn't ruin a single head.

So I am wondering what head to go with. I could just stay with the Zwickeys, but I am worried about burying them into a tree; which wasn't much of an issue down where in south texas. A bunch of the blunts are 125gr max, and I really would like a 175gr head so I can just use the same arrows. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a bunch of 175 gr blunts on the market... except the ones above.
I bought some in both 100 grain and 125. first one I shot snapped off the insert hitting hard dirt. Perhaps a coincidence. Not sure, and I have not tried another...

Ace Archery Tackle has weights 85 grains thru 200 grain. I just ordered some last week

Got around to making some up today. My new $8 grain scale came in yesterday so I had what I needed to DIY. Went to Home Depot with my scale and calipers so I could do some estimates.

These came out to be about 50 cents a peice.

I tried the krylon touch just to see how it might turn out.

They flew great. Hit small balloons on the ground at 18 yards. So they flew where I was looking.

I did make up a t-nut version. On those I had to go to 220 gr, but could remove the 40gr adapter weight from my setup. They flew great as well but had a wind noise. That and I like the idea of just swapping my 175 gr field points, broadhead, and small game head without messing with insert adapter weights.

For those of us that shoot 50 and under, I don't think there is anything going to work as well except a broadhead!

Just dug up this thread and realized I never did post my results on live animals and at least provide an alternative to what both Bisch and I have witnessed with other heads.

I had previously used the G5 SGH and had sad results (was a 9 gpp arrow out of a 50# bow.) Had "bounce" off shots or very little penetration on just a rabbit or jack from 10-18 yards out. A dull Zwickey is what finally sealed the deal that year (10gpp arrow from a 50# bow)

This past spring I hunted the same ranch with a new 48# bow, and was shooting 11 gpp arrows. I used the 175gr nut/wingnut head in the post above. I was extremely happy with the results.

Out of 12 rabbits/hares I shot at, I didn't get a single "bounce off" except for 2 rabbits that were head shots. I didn't get very much penetration, but the rabbit was killed instantly. For anything placed back of the head, I got two holes, but not complete pass thrus (actually a good thing!) Jack Rabbits are tough critters. I put down 2 with heart shots and they still ran 10-20 yards before piling up. Both were 2 holes, but again, no pass thrus.
