    Fletching from Turkey Feathers

Just seeing if anyone does this or knows someone who can. I'm looking to get some fletchings made from a turkey my son shot.

I don't know anyone in Tx that grinds feathers. There is a guy on Trad Gang that does it. You send him all you feathers, tell him which wing you want, and he keeps the other wing. He grinds yours and sends them back to you full length. I believe he will chop and dye them also for a fee.

I do my own. Haven't done anyone else's but would be willing to give it a try. It seems the usual rate is what Bisch said that guy charges. I tried to dye my feathers before and it was a horrible fail... Sanding and chopping are easy though! Buy whatever chopper you want and if you have a sander of some sorts your set. I used 2 vise-grips welded to 2 thin sheets of metal to place the feather inbetween, close it, sand it on the table sander or I used a dremel with a sanding drum and a careful eye will get you what you need. Then chopping was just like playing whack-a-mole for a few minutes.

There's a guy on the Leatherwall who does that, too. I wonder if it's the same guy. I wish I could remember his user name.

I did this by hand when I was in college. It's not hard to do. Just use a razorblade to cut the quill, and then put in a clamp and sand flat.

My brother brings me turkey wings when he goes hunting. He puts them in a plastic bag, and sometimes they have blood on them. Is there a way to clean that up, or are they ruined?

Or wash em with soap and water. Cleans the oils off too so they're not as waterproof. More like store bought trueflights then
