    Need A New String

Darton has loaned me a Samick Sage 62" 45# bow for our MAAP deer hunt, it needs a new string, I know nothing about this type of bow, any suggestions? Thanks

Check some local pro shops if they are around close. I know over at Smithfield Archery, Rhonda has several in stock. If not, then she can have one made. Samick should be a pretty common one.

There used to be several TBH members that make trad strings. I've had strings made by huntinpoole and ol'man but I don't know if they are still doing it. Rick Barbee is a great string maker but last I heard he was way backed up. I would call Three Rivers Archery and see what they would recommend. They make custom strings.

              No offense.
But if you know nothing about a recurve and plan on hunting with it. I would just recommend for you to practice, practice and practice.

As far as strings. 3 rivers carries all types.
As a general rule of thumb, recurves take a string that's 4" shorter than the bow (58" string in this case). Longbows take a 3" shorter than the bow string.

              I hope this helps.

I have the same bow and use this string in 58" http://www.3riversarchery.com/Fast+F..._baseitem.html

Make sure you also have a stringer to put it on. Like all new strings, they will stretch/settle in and you will have to adjust brace height for the first 100 shots or so. Write down the brace height of the existing string/bow so you know where you should start.

Wheelie, I mean no offense either, but please consider the advise of MEsquivel. Do you know what your draw length is, what spine arrows you need for the bow you have, what your anchor point is going to be. All of that takes time to develop and figure out, and then after you get all that figured out, it takes more time to practice, practice, practice, and it is only about 6 weeks until deer season opens.

You may be exceptionally talented and this may be very easy for you but most of us had to work very hard at it.

Good luck to you and welcome to the Stick Bow Community. If you will stay with us, you will find we are very helpful and friendly to everyone.

By the way, I have a 45# Samick Sage, and they shoot quite well for an inexpensive bow. I have three or four custom bows that I had made and there is not a lot of difference in the performance, the Samick just don't look as good.

No offense taken from anybody in this forum, my draw length is 31.5, made a couple of shots last weekend at the property, noticed the string didn't look good so I put it up, was able to hit a 18x18 target at 14 paces lol, caughtandhobble offered me a free string, very nice gesture on his part, should be here tomorrow and I will start practicing allot, thanks for all the help everybody.

58.5" SBD 8 stand string. You will thank me later. Braveheart Archery has them in stock on their website.

Wheelie - if you shot your wheel bow with good consistent form it won't take you long to get a shot down with the recurve. Because you now have no sights and no let off, it will take you a while to be accurate, but that's just work so no big deal there. If memory serves, which increasingly it doesn't, Graywolf posted a great aiming/concentration drill on here a month or so back. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll try to describe it for you, but it's well worth doing ONCE YOU'RE SURE that you have built a consistent shot with the recurve. You'll be far better off if you spend a week or two shooting at a blank bale and simply making sure that you run your shot the same way every time. Then start trying to hit something specific.

Just to stay on thread, I'd recommend a Fast Flight + 15 strand Flemish twist string for that bow. FF+ is not as fast as some of the others, but it's fast enough, quieter than many and a little easier on your limb tips. If you need one PM me.

You need a 58" string. Try 3riversarchery. What part of Pittsburg county you hunt? I live in Indianola in the norther part of the county.
