I used them years ago. I later switched to 5 1/2" feathers as they were cheaper and easier to get. I think my supplier of them may have went out of business.
Any large fletch is going to fly better than a smaller fletch and hold up better wet.
I have just started switching back to 5" after years of shooting larger fletch as I think it is hurting me down range at say 25 + yards plus they are noisy and I think the deer are hearing them.
When I was hunting from trees and putting the deers head behind a tree to feed when I shot it did not matter as much. Now that I am hunting in South Texas with no trees to throw corn behind I think they are picking up on the sound.Last edited by M.E.B.; 05-24-2014, 08:49 PM.

I bought a feather chopper and made some different length base plates for it. I've made them from3.5"s to the regular length. I kinda liked the 4.75" ones.Last edited by trad"Doc"53; 05-25-2014, 02:03 PM.

If you want some, I can cut them for you in any size and any color that we can get full length feathers in. I have the Vario Clipper (Chopper) from Herb Haines. Easy to do. I'm in San Antonio on the far NW side (Alamo Ranch). Shoot me a PM if you want to get together to chop some.
All the best,
Glenn

Leo, looks like you are fixed up here, but I'm pretty sure I've got about a dozen right wing red banana cuts you can have to play with. They are about 20 years old but should be fine to experiment with. I think these went by the name "maxi fletch". I liked them but went to 5 1/2 inch shield cut for some of the reasons mentioned above.
I'll try to bring what I got to Bullis at the end of the month.
