    Grip problems solved

My shooting for the past two or three years has been fair, but nowhere near the level I once was, nor want to be.

Today I spent most of the day dissecting my shot sequence, and evaluating the effect/results I was getting.

I have suspected I had a grip problem for a long time now, but was just to hard headed to really work on it.

Well today I put my hardheadedness aside, and faced up to some realities.
Started shooting with an open handed grip, and voila - my accuracy immediately took a huge leap for the best. I was feeling the shots, and drilling golf balls at 50 yards better than half the time. The other half weren't missing by far.

It still felt insecure to me, so I made me a wrist sling just to keep the thought of dropping the bow out of my head. Just a braided paracord bolted into the stabilizer bushing, that isn't tight, but provides me all the security I need to keep from thinking about it.

All is now well in Rick's world of archery.

      Thanks !!!!

I plan on doing a lot of shooting tomorrow, so I'll take a few clips to throw together for YouTube.

This open handed grip works so well, it actually had me giggling at times.
I think I even laughed & snorted a couple of times.

It's one thing to be bragging about your shooting, but ragging on how great your eyesight is, is unforgivable!!!lol I can't even see a golf ball out at 50yds. Congrats on working through your problem.

LOL Larry, without my glasses I can't see a basketball at 50 yards, but with my glasses I can see the holes in a golf ball at 50.

Way to go Mr Rick. Now I have to go in the back yard and start messing with different grips lol

Nice... Sometimes we need a little extra security to overcome !
The strap looks good, very unobtrusive and does not detract from "The Traditional" look.If I could hit a golf-ball at 50yds.. I'd be giddy :-)

                    Thanks guys.

I've always held the bow with just thumb & forefinger, but I've never really shot with a loose grip. Up until I started shooting 3 under I always shot with a cant, and a tighter grip seems to accommodate the cant just fine.

After switching to 3 under, without trying or even thinking about it, I started shooting the bow vertical. It just went there over time, and became the natural way to do it. Now I have to consciously think to & force a cant if needed.

Shooting vertical with a loose grip is hands down better for me. I can still shoot just fine canted, but I don't unless I need to.

Hoping to get to go shoot some 3D today, and see if the confidence holds up when there isn't a 6' hay bale to catch the arrows.

                    Rick

Here lately I can't hit my "ARSE" with both hands, much less a golf ball at 50 yards

                      Good shooting Brother

If you can consistently hit a golf ball at 50yds, nobody else with a recurve even needs to show up at the Chester IBO shoot!

                        That's some good shooying!

                          LOL Jerry 50% ain't consistent. I wish.
I'm still going to try to do a video today, but waiting for the wind to lay down.
No chance of doing it in this wind.

I just got home from shooting a 30 target ASA round, and averaged 9.4.
Before the open grip I struggled to average 8, and didn't most of the time.

                            At fifty yards,
drilling golf balls at 50 yards better than half the time. The other half weren't missing by far.
                            is pretty darn consistent!

                            9.4/target is pretty salty too!

                            Keep up the good shooting!
