    Two Bows One Arrow

I recently got back into archery
The first thing I did was try to track down an old hill style BamaBow that I had made for me a few years ago. It’s on the heavy side for me at 55 lbs but it’s the only bow that I have ever had made for me and it had a personal inscription on it. it’s not the only bow I regret selling when I dropped out for a while but it’s the only one I felt an urge to find, also it’s the only bow I never put forth the effort to tune completely before selling it (my Daughter was born a few weeks after I got it and I didn’t have time to shoot; I was also having some shoulder issues and it was pretty heavy for me). On my search I bounced through a couple previous owners and the trail dropped. I wrote it off for the most part but I kept posting the occasional message over at tradgang were it was last seen…

In the mean time I found and bought a Hoyt Buffalo which is awesome. It was a strange choice for me as I have always preferred longbows but I really like this bow. Its 45 @ 28 on the sticker and you can adjust the weight up or down a bit… pretty sweet. I was able to set it to draw at exactly 45 at my draw length… which on this bow measures to 29 inches (string to back of bow). I set up some nice heavy arrows that shoot great for me. GT5575 145 grn point, 100 grain insert. About 536 total weight I think, they hit hard.

I still post on the gang every now and then looking for my bow and…. Last week I got a hit… in fact I got my bow back . It’s a BamaBows Hunter T/D model 55@28 (draws 56 lbs for me, my draw length on this bow is 28.75 string to back of bow). After shooting as much as possible with the 45lb recurve and shooting Ben’s 50# Montana as much as possible. It turns out I was ready to draw a 55# bow just fine… probably shouldn’t do it but it feels great to shoot and no shoulder problems so far. Here’s the kicker, and the point to my story , it shoots my existing arrows that I set up for my recurve perfectly. I pulled up stu’s calc and it shows both of these bows as being within a half-pound or so of each other in dynamic spine… and since I can adjust the Buffalo I technically could make it exactly the same. So now I have two bows that shoot the same arrows… the only difference is speed. The Long bow runs near 20fps faster than the recurve. I shoot both pretty well up to 15 yards but the longbow I shoot pretty well out 25 or so, probably the flatter trajectory caused by the increased speed. I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out.

Anyway just wanted to share my story 

Also I wanted to note my biggest previous issue with this longbow was a thwong noise upon release… this thing is dead silent now, all you hear is the arrow hit the target. I think my previous issue was my arrows were too light, I used to shoot 3555 with the same 145 grain point but a 15 grain insert and .25 inch longer shaft… there is more than a 100 grains different in the arrow that I had a noise issue with and the arrow I am shooting now with zero noise. Other than that nothing in the setup has changed, same string in fact with the same muskrat silencers I put on it .

    Thanks for reading 

I am glad that you got your Bama back, that's just plain cool... The Montana found her way back today. Funny thing after five minutes of tuning, I wonder why I ever started the search for the perfect bow. Enjoy the Bama, and don't let her go again
