How serious are Texas 3D shoots?

Looking at the rules for some of the shoots, including the Cowtown shoot in Fort Worth, I get the impression that a lot of the shoots in Texas are geared to folks who are into competition, keeping score, etc.

Is that a correct reading or are there shoots that you can shoot simply for fun, bringing along grandkids, etc., without annoying hell out of those who are into shooting competitively or those who run the shoots?

I'm still used to shoots back east, like Baltimore, ETAR, etc. where the competition, if any, is pretty much limited to bragging rights among friends, score cards aren't issued and it's basically a chance to shoot a bunch of targets, have fun and, of course, support your local vendors.

    Thanks.

It's like that here too, yes Thera those that compete, but there's everything from the competitive shooters to those who are out to enjoy family, friends and the event. And those that are in for it all. Our shoots are good times

Almost all of the Texas shoots are geared to accomodate folks from those who just want to be there to have fun all the way to the most serious competitors.

Just pick some shoots & go to them.
        You'll be glad you did.

The TBOT shoots are the best, they are trad only and very family oreinted. You can just shoot for fun but it will still cost adults a shoot fee, this helps with target replacement. Kiddos shoot for free. I don't know how the IBO shoots are going to go, we'll just have to wait and see. Most of the club shoots around my area are pretty laid back and easy going. At shoots where wheel bows are at you just have to be patient, some of the wheelie groups don't think about letting you shoot through to get past them. We don't tend to take to long to shoot our targets!lol

The TBoT shoots are as serious as you want them to be. I always pay to compete, never do any good, but always have fun. Bring the kids and have at it, they will have a blast.

I thought we were supposed to annoy the serious competitors

I've only been to a few TBOT and non-TBOT trad-only shoots these past few years, but I'd say there were a good mixture of both - competitive fun. My first one I shot for fun but still kept score. The rest I shot competitively, but still had loads of fun. The last shoot I did early last year the group I was with shot competitively, but they were the funnest and funniest group I had ever accompanied - dutifully keeping score, but cracking jokes and laughing loudly at every errant shot anyone of us happened to make.

I have been to several shoots and I won't go to another compound shoot. Those guys get mad if you talk to your friend 20 yards away. They make it no fun. The traditional shoots are great. They allow you to have fun. I take my kids to as many traditional shoots as possible. I don't keep score for me, but I do for the kids.

Really stinkbelly? I'm sorry you had that experience. i am a compound shooter and if I see you, I'm talking to you, even if I have to walk 30 yards to do it! I have been known to shout "Hi (person's name)" at the top of my lungs halfway through a shoot and give a Forrest Gump wave.

I've been to mixed shoots (compound and Trad) and have to say I must agree with Stinkbelly! The Trad shoots seem to be fairly serious but lots of fun at the same time. Compound shooters were too serious for me!

I won't promote our club over any other, I have shot at other clubs also. Yes there are some very serious shooters that make any given event and while I may giggle to myself about how long they stare through binoculars, the positioning of the umbrella, and the longer hold on draws, I give them the respect I would ask for. I shoot in Hunter Class and I'm far from serious, I don't aim from any scored ring, I aim as if that's a real animal just for the practice.
At our club shoots we have a good group of people who enjoy the sport.
I invite any one who would like to shoot and enjoy the day at a 3D course to go, find a club or a small group at a club you've been to before and enjoy.

Been shooting prostaff for 20 years and love to shoot 3-D when schedule permits. I found that the more loose I am the better I shoot. I tend not to linger around the guys who are pouting and their B*****$ drawn up so tight they puckered when they shot. Sorry but even though I am competitor and take competition serious; if it's not fun then why do it. Bring on the family and kids.

Myself and a few others try and compete hard but the main thing is and should always be to have fun. I love shooting with new people. We were all new once and helping those out to grow the sport I love is what its about. Just go out and shoot.
