Long Bow string length

I was given a very nice long bow this weekend, but it didn't have a string. How do I know how long to buy. All that is written on the bow is 65# 28". Any help is appreciated.

Rule of thumb: measure from string groove to groove following the curve of the bow and subtract 3". That will get you in the ballpark.

Recurve, subtract 4" of the AMO length.
