    Hoyt Game Master II

Well I have been sitting here all week with a Montana that Caughtandhobble sent my way very graciously, thanks Ben!!!, and I have not had time to shoot it. I am hoping to take it out tomorrow

In the mean time I was able to swing by Archery Country today at lunch... unfortunately without the bow... and I saw a funky looking Bow that I tried out. The Hoyt Game Master II... I was shooting some house arrows and since I haven't fired a bow in 17 months I was pleasantly surprised with my marginally ok groupings at 20 yards

Ultimately I think this bow could be a contender for me. I usually prefer Long bows and am partial to Sarrels but this thing was fun and since Ben loaned me a bow for the time being I have a little time to build funds.

Any way, since I've only shot it the one time I wanted see if any of the fine folk here have any experience with this bow and what your thoughts are!

    Thanks in advance

    Jon

I have never shot one, but I did fall in love with that same bow when I first saw it at a local shop. I don't know why but it just drew me to it. Still have not shot one, and can not afford one so it is ok.

I shot one the other day. Older model.
It shot pretty good but had 60# limbs.
IMO it was hard to pull and loud. But again it wasnt my bow. Didnt have any type of silencer or dampeners and was 60#.

I shot the 45# model, it was a little loud but i figured the same as you... not my bow and no silencing tools applied yet. no hand shock at all though and very light weight. felt ver natural to me, which i liked.

more over it was kind of like Chester said, it just drew me in. I felt like i was shooting with one foot in the compound world and the other in the trad world...

I've got a very close friend who is a top notch archer. He won the European Nat Championships when he was deployed there, and has a very good track record here in the states as being one of the best.

Now, you might think "Target Archer".
Yea he is, and a bowhunter, and a trick shooter, and can shoot any kind of bow from just about any position.

I've seen him hang by his legs upside down from a tree limb 10ft off the ground, and put arrow after arrow in the kill zone on a 3D deer target at 20 yards.

His bow of choice for hunting - The Hoyt GMII

They are great bows. I just never liked the strapped risers.

Nothing wrong with it. I just never cared for the look.

Yeah it looks kinda of funky, I think it may be part of what's limiting the hand shock but I don't really know. I'll need to do some research. I think the strapped look may be what drew me to it to start with actually, I have never seen one like that before.

Jon, the strap is there to reduce the flex of the riser.

All those cut outs were done to reduce weight, but introduced flex, therefore the strap was added as a brace.

That riser is very similar to the Hoyt Excel riser I currently use. The Excel would benefit greatly from the strap.

Proper term is a "tec" riser. They call that a "tec bar" - but I think I like "strapped" better because they will usually leave you strapped for cash. LOL.

I kinda like the look too. Its like I'm looking at something I shouldn't. Like I'm being bad.

I liked mine a lot. Wish I had never traded it, but the bow I traded for was too good to pass up, and I figured I could buy another GM when I had the money. Then they switched to the GMII. Close to the same, but not exactly. Might still get one later. My first new trad bow (after several used older Bears) was the GM that I'm shooting in my avatar. With some string leeches and proper tuning, it was a nice quiet bow, but not as silent as my other trad bows... especially my longbow.

                          All the best,
                          Glenn

                            Vanes are COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL !!!!

                            BUT

                            Only off the shelf.

I don't mind a techy look, but that strap just never appealed to me for some reason.
Like I said - nothing wrong with it, and it's a good stable riser. That's what counts.

I do know that the grip on that riser is one of the best Hoyt ever put on any of their hunting recurves.
