    New String Problems

Last Sunday while at a 3D tournament my string got a nick in it and was hanging on by a few strands.

A fella was there and made a new string for me. It Cost me $10. He said there would be a break in period and to leave it strung for a while. The initial brace height was 6 7/8". I shoot my bow at 7 5/8". It is quiet, smooth and fast at 7 5/8.

With this new string I can't get the brace height any where near 7 5/8. At 7 inches it coils, quarks, and kinks up like a snake. I am afraid that I will over twist the string. The top loop is already starting to unravel and it is stretching a ton. The string wasn't pre stretched.

I can shoot the bow at 7" but it is loud and sloppy. It doesn't feel at all like it used to. What do you recommend?

I have trimmed the loose strands 3 times and waxed it a bunch.

What to do ?? I would obtain a string that will give you a 7 5/8th brace height !!

Can this one be shortened to work?

I'm sure Rick can help you. The string he made for me is super quite.

There's only one of two things you can do. Either get a shorter string, or unravel one of the loops on that one, and twist it up shorter.

Marshall, If Red made you that string I, it is probably B50 and not the same material as what you had before. Changing string materials will make you have to re-tune. Also, if you are having to twist it till it kinks like that, the string is too long.

The "unraveling" you see is probably just the ends of the strands of the string. If that is what it is, then they won't hurt anything. If the string was indeed unraveling, it would probably already come apart by now.

You should get a new string made out of the same material that your old string was made out of.

Ok. Just sucks that I wasted the money on this string.

What bow is this on and what string did you have on it?

Bisch... It is on the #65 Martin Hatfield. Was the factory black string. The string on it now, I believe is a three strand B50 material. I like the colors. I finally got the BH up to 7 1/2. It is quieter now. But my arrows are a little off. I am afraid to twist it any more to get it up to the 7 5/8" that I had it at before.

I would say you need to contact one Rick Barbee. I am shooting his strings and they are top notch.

I went to his web site to order one. He has a wait time of 3-4 weeks. Im on the right now program. And right now that seems like a long time.
