Is your bow a tool or art??

I was just thinking looking at all the bow pictures on here.. They are all so pretty and nice and clean.. Alot of the guys post pics and their bows look brand new.. These guys must baby their bow..

mine was pretty when i got it but now its all scratched up from being tossed around and bloodied.. I dont keep it in a case unless im going on a trip.. Am i the only one who uses their bow as a tool?? I dont need it to look pretty

Can not really afford a nice looking bow, and nothing I own is a "safe queen", if I can not use it I don't need it. Now that's not saying that I don't look at a lot of the bows and drool all over them given the chance.

Most all of my pieces of equipment are tools. I use not abuse and take good care of all my equipment from a $20 BB gun on up.

Mines a tool, I use it... A LOT!! But I also take care of it, I guess you can say "baby it", clean it and keep up with it.

Both of my bows are works of art, but they are also my tools.

Both. When you spend 60 or more hours scraping away at an osage stave to create a selfbow, you better dang well believe it's art.... that you can use as a tool. Art is what you perceive it to be. I have no interest in paintings on a wall, and those barely come across as art to me, but a beat up old bow with scratches and stains that tell a story..... that's art in my book

I don't see why you can't have the best of both worlds! If I'm going to spend hard earned money and wait 8 months for a bow to be built to my specifications with wood combinations of my choosing you can rest assured its going to be "nice". That being said, as soon as that sucker gets to the house it's going to be put to work. Between backyard practice, 3D shoots, and hunting trips the scuffs and dings come with time but that's not to say that I don't try to keep things as "nice" as possible during the process.
