A story and a thunder chicken

Recently my property has had turkeys come back after years of not seeing any. They are everywhere now! I've been trying diligently to stalk up on a gobbler with my black widow. Yesterday I got within 12-13 yards of a big group of them. The gobblers were unfortunately on the other side of the group about 40 yards away. So I patiently waited for what seemed hours with my face in the dirt and my bow on my back like my father had taught me to stalk. The group of four or five gobblers FINALLY strutted over my way to about twenty ish yards. I slowly pushed the bow in front of me and raised up. I got an arrow on the string and like an idiot I looked up at the turkeys over the bush I had crawled to and heard a sharp PERT noise and they were gone in a flash.
I will get another chance with the amount of turkeys now in the area and whe in do ill be sure and let y'all know.
I could always get in a blind, but my old man has challenged me to get one on the ground, so if I can get it done it will be something that I can forever hang my hat on.

I've gotten close with a ghillie suit, but those birds are tough to fool!
