    New String?

Ok, so now that I'm really hooked on this recurve, I'm wondering if I should replace my string. I'm fairly certain that the string on my bow is the original, and from everything I can gather, it's a 1969 Grizzly.

Will a new string make a big difference? I've waxed this one really well, but I'm still wondering what to do, because it's old and UGLY .

If I should replace it, I'd like some suggestions. My bow is a 56 AMO, and 50# at 28".

PM me some info. I'm not looking for something super fancy (expensive ), but something good to help me move along in this deal.

Since it's a '69 model bow, my advise would be to get a Dacron string, no matter who you get it from.

Stay away from fast flight, unless you have a bowyer put new tips on the ends of the limbs. Yes, you should replace the string, and get 2 while you're at it to have the spare ready for the future.

You could purchase your own string making material and make your own! That's what I did!

How hard is it to learn how to make your own flemish twist strings?

Not really that hard - if you have someone to teach you. Learning on your own will work but usually you end up tying strings that are less than what you are capable of with some help at the beginning.

I learned how to make my own flemish twist strings, there are a couple 'tricks' with how to hold the string and twist it. My problem is, I forget the tricks by the time I need a new string. The good news is I know there will be a bunch of trad archers at the club on Sundays shooting, so I bring it up and they show me again (and again). My muscle memory is lousy- maybe that's why I can't dance?
