How I made a standard pop-up "longbow friendly"

I've got a couple of Double Bull T5's from my compound days that have been mothballed since I went trad, because the low ceiling height forced me to cant more than I am comfortable with. (I like to hold the bow at 1:00-7:00) Through trial and error I figured out I need to raise it 6" for clearance. I made these stakes, hooked them on the corners and drove them in until the bottom of the blind was 6" off the ground.

For a floor I installed a piece of carpet that is big enough to go about 8" up the inside walls to block the gap. I was worried that the higher windows would limit close-up shots, but I can shoot a target at 10 yards without hitting the bottom of the window. I really like hunting out of a pop up and now I don't have to worry about smacking the blind with my top limb.
Brushed in and ready to hunt!

From the looks of those rocks that was probably easier then digging a hole to sit in and making it a sorta pit blind

You did a dang good job of brushing that blind in!

      Great idea, John!

And I thought this thread was going to involve a shovel!
        Nicely done!

Very clever idea, John. I had not thought of 'suspending" the blind off the ground with the stakes. How does it do in a moderately stiff wind? I see you blocked the gap with carpet.

I was kicking around the idea of making a 2x8 square frame (that could be taken apart) the size of the blind's foot print and locking the square frame down with gussets in the corners. Then with lag screws, locking down the blind's corner grommets to the wood gussets. Tie down stakes would secure the blind further to the ground.

Your way requires less material and less $$$ for sure. Thanks for sharing. God bless.

Yeah, my original idea was to dig a pit but it didn't take but a few strokes of the shovel to find that was not going to work in this rocky spot. There was a big patch of shinnery 20 yards from the feeder that made brushing-in pretty easy, we just cut a 5'x5' hole in the middle of it. It is somewhat protected from the wind in there and I made sure I tied-off all four guy ropes to the surrounding brush. Never know what Mother Nature will do but it seems pretty sturdy.

Great job! Just out of curiosity...what length bow are you using? Thanks.

My bow is 60" and I think there is probably enough room for a 62". I found if I raised the blind much higher than 6", taking shots closer than 15 yards would be a problem.

Thinking about your idea more last night, I'm beginning to like it a whole lot more.

Hope to see you at Bownanza. I plan to be at the Gator and Gumbo tent. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
