What is proper string length for 62" Bobbcatt recurve?

Need to know the proper strength length for my Sarrels 62" Bobbcatt recurve?

An "AMO 62" string or a flemish about 3" shorter than 62".

So many bowyers have strayed from the AMO standards, that it is tricky to go by these days, but a 59" actual string length should get you close enough.

The string I have now is 57.25" and when strung, gives me an 8" brace height. To me, this seems to be about where you want it, but I want to be sure this is accurate for how the bow was designed.

With a 57-1/4" string I am betting you don't have much twist, (if any) in your string...might want a little more length to get some twist...

Hey Tim, how did you derive that measurement?

If I were you, I would talk to Bob to be sure of the recommended brace height, but considering the geometry of the bow, and it's fairly straight riser, I would think anywhere from 7.75" to 8.25" would be a good brace height window to be in.

You are right in line and yes Mr. Barby is correct on the the brace.

Measured from the string to the deepest point in the grip to get the brace height. It's actually just shy of 8".

I mixed up the strings I have and I wasn't sure which one came with the bow, hence my reason for asking the original question. I think I'm good now. Appreciate the responses. I'm working on tuning some arrows and this was one of the things I wanted to get worked out.

If you are using an endless loop string a little shorter than 3" would be ideal. Endless loop strings best perform without twists. However to attain the proper brace the string usually needs to be twisted. The less twists the better. That's why I just built my own endless loop string jig. I'll be making my strings short enough that they won't have to be twisted. What say you Rick? Frank

                      String length

I have always been told 4" shorter than the bow. It seems to always work for me.
