Hey what happened?!! I'm a proud owner of a what? (Read is a little long)

Hunting trips with the buds aside there’s not a whole lot that truly gets me fired up anymore. I mean I get in a heightened state of happiness at the news of good things happening to good people or watching that agents all odds pass to win the big game thing.

But I am talking about the days of can’t sleep, can’t wait Santa’s coming excitement. Not to say that I don’t fondly remember them; it’s just that it has been quite a while since I bought something or went somewhere that brought about this sort of excitement.

It just so happens (sarcasm) that I was in Buda the other day when Bill Spakes (Bowfisher) calls and tells me that I should give Bob Sarrels a call as his shop was only a short drive from where I was.

You see, not being a traditional Archer and only vaguely considering it I did not know Bob and Zachary or of their work other than their occasional mention in various conversations.

But make no mistake Bill knew; oh yes he knew and he also knew what would happen when I saw a wall full of these Remarkable works of Refined Craftsmanship.

Now I’m standing there in Bob’s and Zachary’s shop when a cold reality comes over me. I wasn’t simply being enticed by a good friend into getting interested in a like hobby for mutual enjoyment.

Oh no; Bill’s plan was much more devious; instead I was being lured in to the purchase of a Sarrels bow where he would take the painless (to him) heat from my wife for his involvement. (Something he finds quite funny)

The completion of his diabolical plan would be to tell his sweet and considerate wife Marry that I had just bought the bow of his dreams and “WHAM THE SEED IS PLANTED” nothing to do now but wait as he knows she will think of little else until he has a Sarrels in his hands grief free.

Now what do I have say to being used as a pawn in such a supremely calculated plan as this? One that I realize would have never worked had I been privy as my acting skills leave a lot to be desired. It’s a corner of the mouth thing my wife can spot from across the room that I simply can’t practice away in the mirror. LOL.

Well I simply say; YOU’RE THE MAN MR. SPAKES with only two nights on the couch that I have already got behind me.

And that soon to be new Sarrels Bluerridge S/R that comes with the challenge & joy of learning how to properly use it to look forward to; how could I be anything but happy.

So with this said I hope to be welcomed as a soon to be new member of the traditional archery family that has once again allowed me to find that good old Santa excitement that we all love to feel.

    End

Please forgive my antics and allow me to offer my most sincere thanks to Bob and Zachary Sarrels for warmly welcoming me into their shop. I simply can’t remember a day better spent than in the admiration of their craft and enjoyment of their interesting conversation.

It was only in their patience, experience and genuine interest that I was allowed to come away with the excitement of knowing that my new Blueridge S/R will be just that “mine”.

Thank you Bob and Zachary, and by the way I do now understand that it will take some time for my bow to be created. Being so I will make a real effort to limit my calls to only three a day to check on its progress. LOL

Congrats! It seems to happen way more often than you think...Bob and Zach are good people! Your problem has really just started, because you can never have enough bows! Welcome to the club! Jason

I can see this to be true, I wanted at least five of the one's he had on his wall all ready. One thing is for sure I shot everyone of them and was amazed at the differences in characters of each bow.

I shot a Blueridge S/R that he had ready made and fell in love with it. I think my not knowing anything about any of them was a real advantage as I had no preconceived notions of how one should shoot compared to the other.

I picked the BR S/R simply because it was the one that felt best to me; like it was made for me. I really like this fact as I may have even subcutaneously chose one over the other if I would have been aware of their reputation or noted attributes.

Thanks for the welcome by the way; I look forward to the fellowship of this mutual interest and truly feel like I have the excitement that I felt almost 30 years ago when my first compound was put in my hands by a guy named Jeff Wilson of X-Ring Archery.

IMHO, the Blueridge is Bob's best design. Of course, after just a short while and a few 3D shoots, you will HAVE to have a recurve.........and a selfbow too!

Yep. This was a lot more devious than you first thought.
