Just wondering if anybody has had success doing this. i know there are a lot of guys out there that have made the attempt to switch due to eye dominance and those of things, did it improve your shooting? i know it would be a long process for someone who is completely right handed and cant do much if anything left handed, but did it, after lots of practice, finally become comfortable? my dad has gone through many eye surgeries in the past few years and has continued to shoot his recurve with many struggles due to his eyes..well he came home yesterday from shooting pistols and found that he was able to see much better shooting the pistol left handed by closing the right eye where now after surgery he has had to close the left eye to shoot his recurve even tho before he would leave both open, i think his main struggle is that the right eye is the worst one and when he closes the left he just loses a lot of vision and if he closes the right eye or leaves both eyes open his shot is way off, we have done this through a lot of trial and error and he still struggles...anyways just needed some feedback from anybody who has attempted or has made the switch he is interested in trying and sseems excited about it..i guess really the main thing is we need to prolly find a light poundage left handed recurve and just try it

switching from right hand to left hand shooting?

I can tell you that I switched from left hand shooting (a compound) to right hand shooting (a recurve) was very do-able for me. I shot my compound left handed for many years with success but was right eye dominant. When made a change to a recurve I wanted to shoot with the correct dominant eye and so I began to shoot right handed. I was scared at first but once I started, it took a few days before I began to feel comfortable drawing with my right hand. I started with a low draw weight recurve- 40# for me. I shoot a different method than instinctive and like it. Here's a photo of the last target I shot a JOAD archery club. Take care and i hope your dad does well. God bless.

I busted my left shoulder 2 months before a bear hunt and could not hold my bow at full draw. However I could hold the string with my left hand at anchor and push draw with my right and still be accurate. I taught myself to switch hit and has helped me bag a few fish before. Every once in a while, I'll switch hands, just to stay in practice, but am still predominantly a left eyed, right handed shooter.

I have advised several guys with opposite eye dominance to take this step. From what I've seen, OED is common in many guys with severe target panic. The ones who have actually switched seem to be much better off for it.
Frankly, I can't even imagine how those archers manage, but some do and even shoot very well that way. Glen is one who comes to mind.
Moral to story: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it is broke, chances are you'll be a happier camper after the switch.
