Recurve or longbow? Why?

I figured it was more preference than anything. Just wondered if I was missing out on something better by not shooting a long bow. I will try one if I ever get the chance.

I much prefer a longbow, think they are more forgiving of a bad release, altho I have never had a bad release, yepper.
I believe longbows are much easier to get to anchor and find your aiming point.
They are longer usually and that is something that a guy has to take into consideration.
They do not require a stringer as Bisch mentioned.
They are usually considerably lighter to carry in the field.
They are just cooler than a recurve.
All that said I might mention that we sell 10 longbows to every recurve.
Hmmm, maybe we build crappy recurves and good longbows. Now theres a thought.

Not with a longbow!

Longbow limbs are typically thicker and skinnier side to side.

Recurve limbs are thinner and wider from side to side. They also have that big curve at the end.

The shape and design of recurve limbs lends them to twist when not using a stringer. There is also the danger of poking your eyeball out if a recurve slips while hand stringing. These two things make using a stringer on a recurve a must!

The shape and design of the longbow limbs do not lead to twist when handstringing and if a longbow happens to slip, that limb tip is not headed straight for your face.

I own several of both
For me..... I shoot a recurve better. When I'm playing around the house I get to thinking that I'm shooting my longbow better but I always shoot better scores with my recurve at the 3 -d shoots

Thanks for the reply Bisch, what about handstringing a reflex/deflex longbow or should you use a stringer?

Good info. Is there a particular kind/brand of longbow that is good for a LB beginner.

I use a stringer on my more extreme reflex/deflex longbows. I hand string those that are straight or have moderate reflex/deflex.

Longbow for me.But you should have aleast one of each if it is in the budget.Oh and about 10 selfbows.
