A properly spined arrow to bow combo, and a well tuned setup will allow the fletching (regardless of type) to pass without making any contact at all.
There are a lot of real good slow motion videos which show what I am talking about. Jerp posted one recently that show it real well. Even though the bow being shot in the video Jerp posted was utilizing an elevated rest, you can still see that the fletching would not have made contact even if the arrow had been down on the shelf.
