Not sure what to do with this...

I received a call from my dear ol' dad last week, and he said that he had found a Bear recurve at a pawn shop in Waco. He had already left the pawn shop before we were able to talk. He quickly looked over it while he was there and told me that the limbs were in good shape and appeared to be a good shooter bow... which I still believe it is. It sounded to be a pretty good deal. I told him to go ahead and snag it the next time he was in the area and I'd buy it and we'd flip it or trade it if we weren't happy with it. Yesterday he was back in Waco and ran by there and picked it up. After I got off work I ran by his house and took a look at it. Upon first glance it seemed to look pretty good. Upon further inspection, we had a "duh moment" and found it to be a lefty. Further inspection found that the little gold Bear "button" or "seal" or whatever its called, was broken off. Things got even worse when I finally looked at the Kwikee Kwiver and found out that it was mounted with 2 wood screws. Anyhow, we all shoot right handed, so we have no use for it. Now we are trying to figure out what to do with it, considering the flaws. Not sure if we should just try and sell it or... ? Any ideas if this is even still salable? What would it be worth, if it is salable? Kind of a bummer... I sure was looking forward to shooting a "new to me" bow.

Also found a couple more flaws. It had a price tag on it so long that you can see where the sticker was before I pealed it off... and there is a small spot where the clear coat has flaked.

I bet it can be fixed up just fine. Just ask bassmatt. I bet he can tell you. As far s making shootable by a right hander, you are probably out of luck!

Yep, all fixable except the lefty thing! It is next to impossible to find the same coin that belongs on that bow, but they do make a replacement coin that could be put on there it just would not be period correct. Little spot of finish could be touched up with a little super glue and the holes where quiver is could be filled or just leave as is. I can't tell from the pics, might even be able to put inserts there and attach the quiver the right way. The most difficult thing to "repair" is that sticker spot, everything around it has faded, so that whole side riser would have to be refinished to get ride of the spot. It does not look like any of these is keeping it from being a shooter. Cannot see nor tell from the pics but the two main things that keep one from being a shooter is major cracks/delamination and limb twist. Yes, you should be able to still sell this bow as long as it does not have these issues.
I'm going to be hunting and away from the computer starting this Friday till the 2nd but before or after that I'm happy to share what I know!

Don't think we're quite prepared to take a loss on it just yet

Thanks for your help! I may give that a go. Might be a fun little project. Looks like this would be a good bow to try a little restoration on... wouldn't be any worse off trying. Sure wish I could find a way to match that little spot. Do you know where I can find the replacement coin?

Super glue to fix the flake in the finish? Hadn't thought about that. Would I just apply it from the bottle or just quickly brush it on?

Also talk to Ron Meloni......he knows a guy that can restore anything, and he has several old Bear recurves reworked and they looked brand new, he is left handed mayble he has somnething he can swap you to help out on the lefty issue.

Just don't do anything but list it. The coin is the same one from hundreds of junk Compound bows of the same era, The sticker is the one that Bear put on the bow to show it was built with an insert for accessories. That Bow will bring about $100 on Ebay and less if you "Fix" it. Don't even buy a string for it. I can't believe someone found a Recurve in Waco before me.

Look at the strike plate that bow has never been shot.

It doesn't look like it has been shot that much. The pictures don't show it well but it has some marks against it. Not much, though. I think someone's kid might have had it. It came with 3 aluminum arrows in the quiver that were extremely short. Looked almost the length of crossbow bolts. The fletchings were all but crumbling off and I threw the string away because it was dry and breaking. When I got it, it was strung backwards, so I wasn't too worried about it being left strung up for however long it was sitting. The limbs appear to be in great shape. With a new string, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it... but I'm not a southpaw.

Didn't know about the sticker, it looked like an orange price tag sticker to me.
