I am lucky enough to get to hunt almost every day if I want to. Well today I wanted to but got held up. I didn't get on stand until 5:15. I got in a stand that is in the corner of a big coastal field. The deer come out in the field on an old road out of a big creek bottom. They feed around on fillaree that comes up in the coastal. Andy was the one that turned me on to the fillaree and how much the deer like it. I always look for it now.
I had been on the stand for just long enough to get my head net on and my skunk scent out, when I noticed a doe coming. I really didn't want to shoot a doe this evening as it is too warm to let one hang over night as I like to do. I looked behind the doe and didn't see any other deer coming. Then I looked the doe over and noticed that she was big, real big. Here it is, really big doe, won't spook any other deer and plenty of day light left.
I made sure the string tracker was right, made sure the deer was right and let it go. No string needed tonight, she only went out in the field a little bit and fell over. I climbed down and went to get the truck. In the first picture you can see the string in front of her muzzle, leading back toward the stand which is right over her belly. It's not as far as it looks, about sixty yards.
