    Another tab question

All this tab talk has me about to try it again. I have a couple of tabs I got when I bought my first trad bow that are made for shooting split - with a spacer. I now shoot 3 under so I can just take the spacer out. (I have some heavy cordovan leather so I may just make one) My question is about trimming it to fit your hand and fingers. My first try ended in a ruined tab. It was too long and it would smack me in the mouth on release so I started trimming it down - unfortunately I made one snip too many, rendering it useless. It woud be helpful if someone could describe - or better yet post a pic - of how the tab lays in your hand before gripping the string. How much of the fingertips should be exposed?

Can I e-mail you the pic? I can't post pics.

jerp I make them from scrap leather from hobby lobby, tandy's . you can buy the scraps for ten bucks and make as many as you want. Sometimes I double them up. Make them till you get one right. Then if you want look up Earl Bateman to make a proffesional one.

Here's a mine Jerp, I got lucky and didn't have to trim mine a bit. My finger tips just hang over the edge when I place the string in the first joint on my fingers:

Mine is exactly like this one, only trimmed about 1/8th inch. I also cut the rubber O-ring off and sewed in a elastic band. It's more comfortable to me and easier to take on and off.

I have some pieces I can give you if you would like to try on some scraps

Also, not to tell you your business, but at the Rod Jenkins class many of us took in August, he stated that if you're popping yourself with your glove or tab it indicates that you're not pulling through the shot correctly. I have this problem quite a bit....so that comment stuck with me.

You might try a Saunders plastic tab. At release, it jumps staight and stays straight. I don't think it will hit you.

That makes sense - thanks. It doesnt happen with my glove so I guess I'm thinking too much about how the tab feels and forget to pull through.
