My dad and I made a pig trap last year that we are having a hard time keeping deer out of. We setup a little 5 gallon spin feeder on top of the "cage" that feeds for 5 seconds, once per day. For the most part we leave the trap tied open so the critters get comfortable going in and out. We have a camera that emails us the pictures so whenever we have a steady group of pigs coming in and out, we just call the land owner and he sets the trap. The problem is the deer have also become comfortable going in and out which is problematic when trap is set because they trip the doors and cant get out. God forbid this happen to a big buck and he breaks off all his horns trying to get out. What can I put in our spin feeder that deer wont eat but pigs will?

One of the first traps we made was similar in height to your. After catching a few deer in the trap(once with diesel cover corn) we learned to make them shorter. Nothing a saw and welder wouldn't cure on yours. Now we don't have an issue with deer going in. The rule of thumb we use is either make it too short that a deer won't go in, or open top that deer can jump out of but pigs can't. I think the doe we caught with diesel corn was just a curious deer. Don't think she was really trying to eat it.
