10-14% is good for componds, but if your shooting carbons out of a trad bow you can pretty much throw it out of the window. FOC doesn't really mean much when shooting trad bows.....

Are you getting good flight? If so, why worry about it? If not, then it might be too far forward.

Of course if you are getting bad flight, it might not be the FOC at all, could be spine, your release, nocking point, or Losthawg's fault.

I take full responsibility for my actions...

Just one question. Are you shooting a Black Widow?

Yep and the arrows fly great but in relation to penetration is high FOC better??

Okay, it has been about 25 years since physics, but penetration is a function of speed (energy) and total arrow weight (mass). It does not matter which end of the arrow the weight is on, as long as it is there.

Two other things to consider with discussing penetration, is that you are getting good flight (which you have already said), because if the arrow hits the animal at an angle it will steal alot of your enengy....and secondly the resistance of the material and surface area of the broadhead and arrow. Two blades penetrate better than three and the amount of cutting surface of the head. They say arrow diameter will have some effect, but it seems minimal to me.

I can't see how FOC can effect the equasion, but am open minded if someone has a theory. I could be wrong as I am a product of the Oklahoma Public School System.

Good question, haven't heard it before.

                  BowBuddy,

Okay, you made me laugh and for that I thank you....then I had to explain it Sue, but I won't hold that against you.

From EVERTHING you said, it seems obvious that you have the proper TOOLS for complete penetration.

I reread and it was funny I did not even know I set the joke up.

Instead of penetration, I think it to be more relative to how flat the arrow flies. The more weight you put up front, the more arch you put in archery......Of course it probably doesn't matter as much to trad archers keeping shots closer to 20 yds as opposed to field archers!

Just messing about the Black Widow; picking at Buff.

Reckon I shouldn't have thrown that up there and not followed up. I've been busy.

Don't know my FOC. I hope thats okay. I know the point end is heavier than they nock end.

Dr Ashby's reports seem to indicate that high FOC does help penetration. He's getting best penetration out of small diameter carbons with lots of weight up front, pushing a sharp two blade head.

I'm shooting GT35/55's, 30 in, 300 gr up front...total arrow weight of 570gr out of a Dwyer longbow, 57#. I've gotten several passthoughs on 80-125# hogs, using 160 gr STOS heads.
