I use the force! Something I learned from an old Scottish dude what wanted me to hold his Dr Pepper just before we sunk in the mud in his 4WD.

Bending at the waist and "aiming" low always works for me. Mostly, itmes with practicing the shots you expect to take. If you can't practice it, wait for the shots you practice.

The getting up and down keep your shots honest and not zeroed in.

(does that make sense to anyone else sides me?)

Even with focus on form, I tend to shoot high from elevation as other have mentioned. One thing to think about is that the animal visually looks further than it is, so if you're shooting truly instinctively, your mind is going to think that animal is further than it is and look for a different sight picture.

Nothing beats practice, but I still have to tell myself the horizontal yardage before the shot. I do usually cheat a bit and memorize some distances when shooting from elevation. I missed my first 3 attempts at game from an elevated stand (all high) but got the hang of it after a while.

Another thing that helps me is a stand with a bar I can lean against (like a climber or rifle tripod) - it's just unnatural/unnerving to try and lean forward from a treestand to bend your waste, so that doesn't help your focus.
