Not a bad problem to have but still???

I leave for Africa on the 23rd
A sable is the main target but I will most likely shoot 8 or 10 other unsuspecting critters while I'm there
In the past I always went with my rusty trusty 74# bow it has never let me down.
I bought a new short riser bow last year that is just 64#.
I have been practicing with the 74 a lot and am shooting it very well BUT I am shooting the 64 better. A sable is a big critter and my lack of restraint means I could possibly shoot most anything. I know I should rely on my go to 74 but this 64 is putting them right where I want them. Shot two 3d shoots with it and it is plum spooky how well it shoots

Ive seen a lot of African kills on DVDs using lower pound trad equipment. I would go for accuracy myself.

Not trying to talk you out of, or into, anything Marty, but I killed my nearly 700# Kudu with my 50# girlie bow. I think the 64#er will work just fine on just about anything you fling an arrow at. Man, I wish I could go with you too.

          Good Luck!

Good luck! I'd go with the most accurate. I used 55lbs on my first trip 57lbs on my second trip. Love that Buff in your avatar, wish I could pull enough bow to shoot a Cape Buff!

Here's one more old adage for you Marty...Ride the horse that brung ya!

Seriously, I think you'd be successful shooting a broom stick.

Just miss the shoulder bone and you should be perfectly fine.

Sounds like your talking yourself into that #64. Like they say..if it feels good do it!

                        Marty,

I know you know this, but a Swartwitpens (my utmost "bucketlist" critter, on earth) will weigh in at around 500lbs, has a beautifully LARGE heart/lung shot picture that lines up fairly similar to an elk. Their ribs are of medium frame and spaced like an elk's, as well.

Depending on your arrow/head combo and combined spine and weight... that 64# sweetstyk should plow a sharp edge through ANYTHING short of the 'thickhides' crowd (rhino, hippo, etc). No cat would be impervious to its 'charms', that's for sure.

...sounds like "enough bow" to me. And if your mind trusts it to send 'em true, then it sounds like THE BOW for you, on this jaunt.

                        Just some thoughts.

                          Thanks for the input.
I killed my first Eland with a 67 so I kinda know that 64 will work
I just feel like I'm cheating on a old girl friend if I don't use the 74

When i was in Africa, I shot everything with a 60# compound....and that wlas with a slick trick. Worked great. A trad head and a heavy, quiet arrow oughta work even better
