    3 strand string making

Can anyone point me to some instructions on how to make 3 bundle flemish string? A video would be great. Have not found one on Youtube yet.

    Thanks
    Matt

You do it the same way as a two bundle. Just one extra bundle to work with.

      Bingo,

It's the same concept you just got a little more to fumble with.... My first attempt was a success, it's not bad

For some reason I can't rap my head around it. If I saw it once I'm sure it would click.

I don't know of any vids showing 3 bundle construction. There's lots of em showing 2 bundle.

So do I just twist one bundle and lay it over the 2 bundles, then twist the next one and lay it over the 2 bundles... If that makes sense.

            Thanks

Matt, have you ever made a flemish string? If so, adding the third bundle does not really change much, but you end up with a little nicer, rounder string.

If you have never made one, we need to hook up and I will show you how to do it. I'm no pro, but I have made my own strings for years, and they work fine.

I have a string jig that I made years ago from junk I had laying around. There ain't much to that either.

Sounds good. I've made a bunch of 2 bundle strings. Got that down pretty good, but would like to learn the 3 bundle for that very reason. Plus 3 different colors just look cool. Don't know who made that string on that Bear bow I bought from Charles, but I really like it, and it's a 3 bundle.

                Thanks,
                Matt

You can add single strands of different colors to a 2 bundle for a cool look.

My 2 bundles are round and 3 bundles give me the carpel tunnel feeling. I make a few for friends but prefer 2 bundle with accents.

I thought about that. May try it in the mean time.

                      I'm ignoring you Bisch.

I always work from right to left, working the twist coming to me.

Twist the bundle clockwise, and wrap it over the top of the other two counterclockwise.

On the right side is bundle 1 - twist & wrap bundle 1

Now on the right side is bundle 2 - twist & wrap bundle 2

Now on the right side is bundle 3 - twist & wrap bundle 3

Repeat until you reach the loop size you want.

Fold the loop laying the bundles together in matching form,
then use the same process of twist & wrap to finish off the
                        neck of the loop.

Keep going until the tag ends run out, or you reach the desired
length from end of loop to tag run out.

                        Hope that helps.

Yes is does. Thanks for taking the time to write that up. I'm getting a clearer picture now.

Matt, I've made a total of 4, three bundle flemish strings. They are just like doing a 2 except you have the third one to rotate in, there is no difference in making them. I made a red, white and blue string for a young man I knew that had just been stationed at Ft. Bragg. His seargant saw it and asked what length it was and my friend couldn't remember. That seemed to be worse than not remembering a fact about his S.A.W. Just so happens it was the right length for the seargants bow so he let him have it and I built 3 more and sent to him so that both had a string for their bow plus a back up.
