    Bowyer's terminlogy

Ok family, I got some questions for you bowyers (Calling Arvin!) regarding certain terms I keep hearing on bowyer's website. If yall could help me out, that will be great! So here we go:

    1. What does "chasing the ring" mean?

    2. Could someone explain the difference between sapwood and I think greenwood, maybe? ANd what there importance?

    3. What is trapping the back mean? I've been hearing that term used with boo-backed bows.

    4. Fades

Please help me out with others, as I cannot remember a few!

Arvin can answer all of these question, but there's a sticky on TradGang that has all the definitions. It's a good read and it helped me figure out what language they were speaking

Chasing the ring is removing the wood from the back of the bow until you are down to one single growth ring.

Sap wood is the softer wood on the outside of a log.

Trapping is removing material at an angle on the edge of a bow in order to tiller and remove weight.

Fades or fadeout is the area where the riser (handle) part of the bow fades into the limb.

      Hope this helps.

Guess I beat Arvin to it. And I don't even build selfbows.
