    Board bow building question

Ok, so I've picked out a perfect red oak board after picking thru the whole frickin lot! I wanna back with bamboo. Question is, do I cut the board to the width (1.5-2 inch) before gluing the backing on? BTW, the boo backing is 70 in. x 1/4 in. x 1 1/2 in. I wanna work out all the kinks before I start on my osage board!

    where you at, Arvin?

It will probably save you a lot of aggravation.

I've no experience, but from what I've read, you'll probably need to thin that boo down to 1/8" or less. Especially so for a board bow.

Look up the Poor Folks Bows site. He posts good build-alongs for those of us starting to do our own. I would do the fiberglass drywall tape backing first as he shows in one of his posts rather than wasting a good piece of bamboo on a red oak bow. Red oak does not stand up well to the tensile strength of bamboo. I did the dry wall tape on my first one, and it is still good. The main thing is to get practice tillering on something less expensive.

I figured I 'pratice' on the red oak before attempting the Osage/boo backed (and till I can get down by Arvin)
