    cocobolo riser?

Thinking about having bob make me some new limbs. I was thinking about a cocoblo veneer onto of bamboo. Since its such a hard wood will it steal some performance from the bow. If so think I may go with maple like curly or a action wood. Thoughts?

I have always heard that veneers are sooo thin that it really doesnt matter what wood you use it wont steal performance.

That being said common sense tells me that anything besides glass and the action wood: bamboo, maple or whatever is more weight in the working part of the limb and must take some speed away. Now it may not be noticable, maybe less than 1 fps but it doesnt help.
I put veneers on my bows and have shot alot of bows and cant tell the difference.

There are three distinct area's of a bow limb. The stretch side (back), compression side (belly), and the neutral axis. The neutral axis is the physical center of the bow limb, whereby the amount of stretch and compression are equal. The laws of physics suggest that the lightest wood with the highest stretch and the highest compression will work best. That is why bamboo is often the core wood of choice. Walnut would be a close second for me.
Now you can understand why the bamboo backed osage bow became so popular. Stretch -vs- compression...

To answer your question, no actual veneers will make no noted differnce in performance as they are only about .026 - .028 thick. They are just fill dirt in the grand scheme of things.
