All it will cost you is some gas, food and a couple lessons for a newbie. Send me a PM if you are interested, and I will talk to dad.
Man thanks for the offer; but right now her mother and grandmother think she's too young to go off that far with just grandpa... seems they think I'd get to visiting and forget her somewhere..

After Christmas I'm going to drive around a bit and see if I can't find some place to take her that don't involve an overnight stay..

mike wish you would not bring up topic's like this, makes me home sick, been in texas 30 plus years now and still miss being able to go in the back woods and hunt, shoot, or just walk in the woods...
oh it was our back property line. it took more time to string your bow than it took to get in the woods...

When I was a teenager we had a couple places we could go hunt. All we had to do was ask before we went, and close the gates behind us. I would always lend a hand if I saw the landowners working on something. Sometimes that meant I didn't go hunting as planned, but it was worth it, and they appreciated it. Unless you know someone thru family or friends, those days are over in Texas. I have found places in South Dakota that are still like that though. Just walk up to the door, chew the fat a bit and ask if you can hunt. 9 times out of 10 they will once they get to know you. Timing is everything though. Catch them in the tub and your SOL. Actually happened once. Unlike city people that may or may not answer the door, people out in the country will always stop everything to answer it.

Ok, I understand. No blaming rude or money landowners though. ha ha ha At least not my family.

luckily those days are still good to me, mainly being a hog hunter has opened the door for me currently i have access to 9 properties where i hunt fish and trap. how i got these is i keep a photo album of 200 pictures of hogs i ve killed with a bow im always showing people word gets around and being a bow hunter only also helps usually once granted permission the first hog i harvest i skin quarter put on ice and offer to landowner thanking him. seems that landowner tells another then i am asked to look at there property to see what i can do to help with the hogs, i have around 6 traps so when i see there alot of hogs ill set a trap or two, this always ends up with invites to hunt deer and fish ponds. I put alot of work into this as im splitting firewood for a landowner i mowed around another landowners pond all summer, and the local constable granted access to his place. some other tips are to put a add in local paper visit your local feed store this has gotten me several places
I am greatful and thankful to our lord for these oppurtunities this was meant as a referance on how to get access not to brag hog hunting has opened the doors for me for the last 20 years

I like the pay for play
As a young man you could hunt paper company land for free
              It was nuts
I like knowing who I'm sharing the woods with

From '64 until I moved to Colorado in '74 I hunted the paper mill land around Friday, right where it bumps up against the National Forest and I don't remember seeing more than a dozen other hunters in the woods during those 10 years.. I'm sure I wasn't alone in the vast expanse.... but I just never seen anybody except at the store... back then folks were a might more considerate and didn't bump other hunters like they do today..

I did have the poop scared out of me before daylight one morning by some deer dogs running by my brush blind..

I must admit, that I was fortunate enough recently to acquire a place to hunt for free, but there were lots of extenuating circumstances that led to it.
