Well after going through a slump this summer where I could barely hit my 3d target and missing a doe early in Oct. I finally got it done this afternoon. With a forecast full of rain I had my doubts I'd even see a deer but being it's been a couple weeks since I last sat in a tree. I was determined that no matter what I was going to get some hunting in. Leaving work this morning I knew I needed to prepaid for a tough hunt. The land owner does'nt like us to tear up the muddy roads so I had planned to hike in some hand corn with a little vanilla flavor added to it and sit a couple hours. Well the gun hunter on the place had this golf cart I could use and it didn't hurt the roads. Back saver for sure. I sat until about noon then had to helP the landowner with a water heater problem and didn't get back to the stand until about 3. And for me that is about an hour late. At about 4:20 I caught movement 50 yds out. 4 does headed in. I guess they caught wind of that vanilla and liked it. They came in with out a care and started wearin out the corn. It took some time to get a shot, several times I'd start to draw and they'ed move a bit. 3 of them got a little weary of something and slowly moved about 20 yards away making it amlittle easier to focus on just one. Finally got to draw, broadside, 15yds she looks up at me! Crap!....... focus, let'er fly... WAP spined her. Dang it!! But she was down at least. I scurried down the tree and put another one through her heart and seconds later she was done. There truly is nothing better than traditional hunting. Hopeing for more success in the morning.
