We've had company at the house since Veterans Day and as of 0715 this morning we will be guest free for the rest of the season! Excited doesn't even begin to describe how I feel to be back on the stand this afternoon. The weather is somewhat warm, winds are calm and I'm setup in the middle of my honey hole. I'll keep yall posted as things develop!

I have to admit I took a little cat nap right after settling in and when I woke up my release hand was numb due to how I was leaning on that arm. I stood up and flexed a bit to get the blood flowing and as the circulation returned I began to notice the sounds of a deer headed my way.
The sun is still about an hour above the treeline, and unfortunately the deer was coming in right inline with the sun! I guessed that by the sound levels I still had a few moments to move around so I raised my hand to shield my eyes and sure enough, I could make out a young doe about 35 yards out headed my way.
I picked up my bow and got ready but it quickly became apparent that this was not a shooter deer. As she came closer I could hear another one coming in behind her and I squinted to try to make out what it was.
After a few minutes the young one had made her way into my immediate vicinity and was standing broadside at 8 yards and the older doe was a out twenty out and headed on the same path. When she got to 15 yards she paused and threw her head up and I knew the jig was up.
She spent a minute or two doing the bob and weave before jumping back to the safety of the thick stuff. She blew once and then picked up a different trail and went around me. The little one didn't spook, but rather continued to feed off to my front.
The dang sun is right on me right now, never had a deer bust me from this tree so hopefully I'll have a little better luck when it sets a little further.Last edited by agtex42; 11-25-2011, 02:43 PM.

Ended up being two button bucks, watched them for about 10 minutes and then an old doe came in behind them. She was aware that I was in the tree, didn't spook but she was real jumpy, I think the presence of the other two deer helped me out.
She ended up giving me the shot I was looking for but decided to pass cause she was so alert. Still 15 minutes of light left and the temps are dropping fast, hoping something else will step out!

Back in the woods for round two, yesterday's "plan b" was a bust. Moved a couple trees over and climbed up to put myself opposite their direction of travel. Hopefully being out if the sun / their direct line of sight will help out. Saw six on Friday, but all it'll take is one in the right position tonight!
