    Broke Finger...Can I use a Release on a LongBow?

I posted this pic in the Around the Campfire forum. Broke my finger on my right hand. I don't know if I can draw enough with two fingers. Can you use a release with a longbow?

I have tryed a release just goofing around and it would take a lot of time to get used to it. I say try use two fingers or try to get a deer or two with something you have never got one with, like a pistol or shotgun, or black powder.

Ditto. I tried it just playing around and I think you could make it work but it is WAY different then using your fingers and would take some practice to get it to work right. If you can make it work with fingers I think that would be the way to go.

I tried using just two fingers for a while last year when I felt that my ring finger was dragging on my release a bit.

I used a pretty thick tab I bought at Academy and two fingers was comfortable after a few days.

I ended up going back to three fingers because there was no improvement by using only two, and three is what I go to by habit, especially after a few beers.

I cut my middle finger on a table saw couple years ago. I used a release with good results, just takes a little practice to get it tuned...

              never tried two fingers...

Never tried a release. I've shot two fingers before, but my heaviest bow is only 45#. Don't know what it's like shooting two fingers on anything heavier.

Can you grip the bow with your right hand and shoot left-handed? I hurt my right hand earlier this year and tried shooting left handed. At first it was very awkward, but now it feels pretty normal. It's also just as fun as shooting right handed.

I cut the end of my middle finger a while back and two fingers wouldn't work with the middle one out so I tried 3 different releases. I couldn't do it. I could get the bow back but could never get the back end of the arrow close enough to my face to have any idea where the arrow was pointing.

That's a joke by the way.

I only shoot with two fingers. You can try it, it has a more consistant release.

I have tried using a release on my longbows and recurves with mixed results. The release I had was one of the WINN Free flight glove type with the trigger like a gun. Heck of a release as it takes a lot of weight off of your fingers and transfers it to your wrist and forearm. The problem I found is that my bow was set up for fingers and with the release I am thinking I had an inch or 2 longer release and a cleaner release as well. That caused my arrows to fish tail, but they hit the target.

No doubt if you set your bow up for the cleaner release and longer hold, your arrows would fly fine. They won't do it right off the bat though.

Have you tried a nice tab? I would suggest a 3 finger under tab in cordovan. That will take some pressure off of your sore finger and you won't have to change much of anything,

                            Good luck.

What about a thumb release? I wonder if that would be easier to learn how to use?
