    Installing inserts in glue-on BHs

O.K., I've never done this before and would like some input from the gurus. I have ordered some 75gr. steel screw in inserts to put in some 125gr. BHs I have. The description on them says that they are grooved to thread the BH onto the insert to insure straightness. I was always been under the impression that you glued the insert into the BH. If this si the caes do you heat the BH any or just the insert? Thanks in advance for any info!!

Hey Larry, I have installed plenty of them and it a chinch. It is just like glueing a point onto a woodie. Screw the insert onto the shaft, heat the insert and apply a little hot melt, heat the broadhead and push it on. Spin the shaft before the glue is cool and it will true up. Make sure you got it all the way down into the broadhead. Good luck.

The inserts I've used are ribbed, but not threaded. I use the 10" hot glue stick that 3 rivers sells , I clean the insert and inside the broadhead with alcohol. I have an old shaft that cut down to about 12" that I've squared the end off. I screw the insert onto the shaft heat the insert up and glue stick, apply the glue to insert evenly, then heat the broadhead up alittle. I then stick the insert into the broadhead until it is firmly seated then put it on my spin tester to make sure it spins perfectly straight. Make adjustments as necessary. Let cool and remove any extra glue that squeezed out. Pretty simple. This is how I do it, hope this helps.

If I could add one more thing, make certain that all off your broadheads are lined up with your feathers the same way. I personally like to line one blade up with my cock feather to insure an unblocked view as a starting point. If you need to spin them once they are mounted, its easy just heat the broadhead and spin. Good Luck...

Good thread. Thanks for the info. Ive been wanting to try the hot melt. In the past I have used gorilla glue and have not had any problems except for having a couple pull off in 3d targets.
