Martin - Yep.

If you can get you hands on a '95 or newer model it will be fast flight capable, and they are durn fast shooters.

I have owned a lot, A LOT, of bows and a CHRONOGRAPH.

What I have found out through my red necked back yard research is that there are bows that shoot better for me but if all things remain constant I find very little differences in speed between bows even when comparing longbows (reflex/deflex) to recurves.

Over 190 would be fast and over 200fps would be blaszing. I have a Brakenbury recurve that shoots 198 with wood arrows. Over 200 you would have to get a Morrison foam cored, Black Swan or a A & H ACS or one of the other foam cored bows.

The problem with giving exact FPS is that there are several factors involved. Two people can shoot the same bow and get big differences in speed.

Bow weight, arrow weight, limb length and draw length will greatly affect arrow speed.

I have a 27" draw, shoot 500 grain arrow and 50 lb bows. I do not come close to 190 fps. Someone shooting the same make and model bow with a longer draw, heavier weight and lighter arrows will shoot a lot faster arrow than me.

That being said I have killed a fair amount of game regardless.

I'm shooting a 525 grain arrow at 150 FPS. Some say it is fast, some say it is slow. I don't know....

Get you a Bowyers Bible vol. 1 and revue Bow Design And Performance. In my oppinon its all about mass .

I think there were a few bow mfgs that copied the old Damon Howatt limb design and maybe a few that still use it. There was probably a good reason for that.

I would look at speed and brace height... my blackwidow 58AMO 55@28 shot two fps slower than my 60AMO 60@28 Bob Lee with carbon in the limbs.. and the blackwidow had a whole inch longer brace height!(8 1/2) The ACS longbow test are done at 6 1/2 inch brace height(to the best of my memory) I will rather have a bow with a fairly high brace height that is quiet, and I can shoot accurately over something that would probably just make my arrows go BY the deer fast

I have an old Fadora that is about 98# at 30" draw and it shoots over 240 . I think thats slow for a basic 100# longbow. Since I riped my bycept out of my left shoulder , I don't shoot it any more. Had to go way down in poundage. But I'll get back goin some day.

All speed does is make you miss faster.

My Sarrels Blueridge longbow shoots a 10gpp arrow 176-178fps. That's plenty fast enough for me.

The only way to compare would be to have arrows of the same weight to shoot off of every bow you wanted to test. As MEB said, there are a lot of variables involved. All the bows Bob mentioned above are some of the fastest though.
