Congrats on a find shot and great eat'in. Interesting that he was still in velvet. Now go get a biggun!

I thought that was weird, too. Before he came in, there was a small spike with several does. The spike had the traditional spikes that go straight up/angle back somewhat and was hard horned. The does didn't offer a shot, and this velvet spike came in about 20 minutes later.
When I first saw him I knew he was a bit of an oddity. It's probably hard to tell from the pic, but his spikes curved like main beams. They were also a little longer than most spikes I see, not to mention that he was still in full velvet. He came in by himself.
Nice job, great blood trail, and great trophy. You will remember this the rest of your life and no other deer will take the place of your first traditional kill. Bet your confidence is way outta sight. God bless the rest of your season.
