    Bow Building Supply Question

All right men. I got a question for you . Where do the bowyers on here, buy there bow building supplies ? I will soon be setting up to build a few. Is there a place around Dallas that I can get woods ? Or do you have to order most riser wood ect.
I just visited a site ( bingham ) and I know about Lancaster Archery. I have ordered from them many times.
I want to know do you order most stuff or do you try to make some of it your self ? Not fixtures or jigs, just materials.

Thanks for your imput. All is welcome.

When I started building I had to order most everything from suppliers. Now I try to do most of it my self that I have saved up enough cash to get some descent tools. I don't have a shop like Sarrels or Savage but I'm getting there.

Woods for risers = rubydog (Terry Dunn), woodcrafters, cooks woods, Kennys kustom archery.

Glass = Kennys kustom archery, Binghams, kustom king archery, 3 rivers.

All these places carry smooth-on EA-40 too or the urac.

    Hope this helps.

Birddog, I would be happy to grind laminations for you. I get my ul glass from 3 Rivers and all my uls glass ( thats what we use on the takedowns) from Dale Stahl in Penn. He is a great guy and will sell to anyone. Bingham has anything you need but they are a bit high for someone building 150 to 200 bows a year. You can also get glue from 3 Rivers. They also sell some lams but .002 tapers is all they offer. These are furnished to them by Old Master Crafters. We get just about all our wood from Terry Dunn aka Ruby Dog and grind all our lams here on site. Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob for the info. Have wanted to do this for years. I think it's time I jump in with both feet. In my younger days I was a ( some say master carpenter ) pretty good wood worker. Have built many things, including self bows,But have never built a lam bow. When I get set up I will make a bunch. Have family and friends that have wanted me to make them bows for ever.So may be one day I will meet you men and pick your brain for those details that you only get by making those mistakes that we all learn by.

            Thank you . Mike

Birddog, Woodworld in Richardson sells exotic hardwoods. They are by Texas Instruments. You can get Smoothon from Reynolds Advanced Materials in Dallas. I've been getting all of my glass from Dale Stahl lately. Hell you're just down the street you should stop by the shop sometime!
