    How do you aim?

There's all kinds of ways to aim.
    (1) Some concentrate on the spot.
    (2) Some look at the tip of the arrow, and aim below their mark (gap shooting).
    (3) Some see a picture to the right or left of the arrow (depending on whether they are left or right handed.
    (4) Some look down the shaft from fletching to arrow point.
    (5) Some aim off their knuckle.

    How do aim? and why?

I just concentrate on where I want the arrow to go.

I've only been shooting trad for about a year so I am not in a position to give advice, but you asked how we aim so I'll tell you how I aim. I just pick a spot and let instinct take over. I do all my practicing at 20 yards or less and it is really starting to click - like throwing a baseball, you look at the glove and the ball goes there. I understand gap shooting conceptually but have not tried it - if I understand correctly gap shooting is a great method for longer ranges. (?)

I think it is a great method for any ranges, I just can't do it.

And with gap shooting you have to be really good at range estimation so you know how much of a gap to hold, right?

Yes... if you are really gapping and not just using the point to instinctive shoot.. There are just about as many was to aim without sights as there are archers shooting without sights...

Yes, and I'm no good at that at all. I just pick a spot and shoot 'em where they are.

I pick a spot then let instinct take it from there. Some days I'm more a part of the arrow in flight than I am on other days.

Same here. I have known people that say the aim by various methods but when I shoot, I have no idea where the BH is or my knuckles or anything else.

I either pick a spot and let'er rip or I extend my bow arm, instinctively line everything up to where I think it should be (I don't measure a gap or anything like that), draw my bow, find my two anchor points, let my mind make any corrections it believes are necessary while concentrating on the smallest of spots, and then release. Both of the above described methods take about the same amount of time.

Having a bow with a manageable draw weight is one of the keys to consistent success (for me).
