    I have a question

I have been shoot bows for around 22 years now and I shoot right handed and I am left eye dominant. I have been bow fishing almost as long and shot a compound traditional, and for the past 5-6 years have been shooting longbows and recurves. I went totally trad last year, BUT a couple months ago someone on here had asked this same question and now it has got me to thinking to dang hard about shooting. I shoot with both eyes open and I have alway done that, when I get to thinking about it to much I start pulling my arrows to the left. If I close my left eye I am dead on, or not thinking about it I am in the kill zone. I tried shooting my RH longbow left handed to see if I could do it, and I did but the arrow flew funny and I missed. Any helpful pointers to get me over this or should I just pull something over my left eye when shooting, maybe try a left handed bow . It really is no big deal I still shoot well and I do not know why I am thinking about it now after all these years.

Don't worry about it, as long as you can hit what you're shooting at, don't change a thing, some of the best shots I know shoot right hand but are left eyed.

I had the same problem about 6 or 8 years ago. I switched to a left handed recurve, went through the normal ups and downs of shooting but today I am very glad I made the move. I shoot better than I ever thought I could. do not mis-understand I still have days that I dont shoot like I want to but overall it was the correct decision. If you decide to try get a light weight left handed bow and start as soon as hunting season is over so you will be confident come fall. Good luck!

If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it. I'd say you should continue on with your shooting as it is. You might try a patch over your left eye when shooting to see if you can train your right eye to become stronger.

I also shoot with both eyes open but my right eye is dominant (RH shooter) but I notice some times with the angle of my head, my left eye tries to take over. Don't know why this happens and when it does, I normally shoot to the left.

        Best of luck.

I am right handed and left eye dom. and believe me I tried it all. i could shoot ok this way but never as consistent as I wanted to be.

I made the switch to left hand about 3 years ago and it was the best move I ever made.

It took about a month or so to get comfortable but it actually felt alot more natural. Better anchor point, everything just felt better.

My two cents is make the change and see how much better you can be.

KRB, I might have to buy a cheap bow after season is over and give the lefty a try. It just floors me that the only thing I do left is shoot a gun, but now it just seems like my left eye is trying to take over my bow also.

I shoot both a gun and bow now with my left and have got better with both.

I have a Left hand PSE laying around that you are welcome to set up and use till you decide if you want to continue.

              Just let me know.

KRB, Thanks for the offer. I am in no big hurry to do anything. I am going to wait till after the first of the year. Things are going to start getting busy at work with people taking vacations.

i swapped from right to left handed year before last and i haven't looked back. i did it because when i get nervous or excited my left eye would take over and i would shoot about 2 feet to the left. i can still shoot a right handed bow pretty good but am much better left handed .

Man, I thought I was the only one with the left/right switch up. I shoot a rifle/shotgun/pistol left handed. I thow right handed and can't throw with the left worth a hoot. So far my eyes are about the same so I shoot my Bob Lee right handed. The hand/eye coordination is very critical to shooting well instinctively. G. Fred Asbell has great tips in his articles in "Traditional Bowhunter" for those who just haven't figured out the the shooting technique.

Where in Henderson County do you hunt? We have about 300 acres south of Athens on the north side of Koon Kreek Klub.

I'm also right hand and left eyed. But, I haven't been shooting as long as you so, who knows?

                            I do okay.
