Broken string; at end of shot

Just broke my bow string. It was a 14 strand B500 that I made.
There was a slight and I mean very slight fraying on one of the
strands right about where it broke.
I had examined the string before my shooting session and it looked fine.
The string has made several hundred shots.
The arrow hit right with the rest of them, in a group of five.
The string apparently broke after the arrow was clear of the
string and the shelf, as there was no affect on the flight.
I examined the bow and cannot detect any damage.
The bow is a 60lb Bob Lee recurve.
This was my "practice string". I have another that is "professionally" made.

Thats crazy... Dont know much about long bows but maybe a higher strand count next time? Or More string wax.

Good thing you didnt get hurt.

      I've had that happen.
Not saying it's the case here, but it is usually is the result of over twisting.

That may well be the case. It was twisted up quite a bit.
I didn't get the length quite right.

Do they have the same tendacy like compounds to hurt you? Looks like it could have turned out bad.. But I dont know.

Generally no. Not as many parts to start flying around.

Usually if the arrow gets away clean, then most of the energy has been imparted from the bow to the arrow, and the power stroke is complete.

If the string breaks at full draw, and/or the bow blows at full draw it can be pretty bad. I've got the scars to prove it isn't always a happy ending. LOL

Back when I could pull 62#s, I had a custom bow recurve that the tip blew up on at about 7/8 draw. I'm not sure how long I was unconcious, but kinda sucks when the hardest you ever been hit in the mouth, was when you did it to yourself! Yea, that's funny right there!!

There were no flying parts other than the arrow and the two halves of the string flying forward and off of the limb tips.

One half flew about 20 feet (the top one), the other about 5 feet. Nothing came in contact with me.

Thanks BK and Larry. Y'all have convinced me to finally change my old frayed string.

I had one brake on 53 lb kodak mag from over twisting and it broke after the arrow cleared the string.

I've had a couple strings break. One in the loop and one in the middle, like yours. I hate chamging strings so i generally leave them on there for a real long time. I figure it just happens once in a while.

Been lucky so far. Have never ever had a string break. I'd agree with the over twisting theory...Van

Well that's the end of it, then.
