    Mason County 9 point

A endless stream of does and small bucks were coming to the feeders but the better bucks would hang back and just watch from a distance. So at mid day I set up a ladder stand about 100 yards down the creek bed from a feeder in a good funnel. The first two times the big 9 point strolled past me I let him walk, hoping for something bigger.
I guess the third time is the charm because when he stopped 15 yards from me, I wanted him so bad my knee started bouncing. Once I had my bow in place and the camera running I zoned out to the point I couldn't focus on anything but the little tuff of hair tight behind his shoulder. He was acting very spooky but my feeble brain had shut down as the whole world blurred out to the point I didn't even notice when he picked his head up to look under me. My whole system was on Auto pilot and I was along for the ride. I wanted this buck. It is hard to put into words the emotion of watching your arrow scream across the distance and bury to the feathers in a deer. We spend all those countless hours practicing, building arrow, tuning our bows for this one split second in time. The 1-9/16" Zephyr cut a massive hole in his side and I heard him go down 50 yards up the hill. For me nothing compares to shooting whitetails from a tree stand. I just plain love it

Thanks Buff for the great read. Nice buck, looks like his neck was swelling a little. I bet yours did too after he was on the ground.

Great buck Marty, and a wonderful recount of the incident as usual. Those wide Zephyrs are awsome, but don't hit a rock with 'em 'cause they'll come apart on ya.
