You can't go wrong with an old bear recurve.

I started out with a PSE Impala for under 200 and liked it alot. 3river archery has some good choices. Or Bass Pro and Cabelas normally have some starter bows if you dont want have to order it.

You might want to look at the Quinn Stallion, and make sure you do not over bow yourself starting out pulling to much weight.

40# samick sage!!! can't go wrong this is a good bow for under $200 and you ain't got to find a used one that may be jacked up (it can be hard for a begginer to detect a twisted limb or a bad tiller). I got one for my wife and I love it.

Not to mention for the same $200 you can not only buy the Sage but also a dozen arrows, shooting glove, rug rest, and a bow stringer. The bow is a proven performer, sure it doesn't have the smoother lines and exotic materials that you might find in a "good" used one but who would want a good used one when you can get a great new one without breaking the bank.

I have been considering getting a recurve and the Sage interests me but it may be too short for my draw length. I'm 6'5" and have a 30.5" draw length with a compound. Is a 62" recurve too short for me. Seems like anything much longer is going to be unwieldy for a hunting bow.

I have a 29.5"L and my go-to bow is 62" I have hunted with a 64" bow with no real issues.

62" would not be "too short" for you but I would probably start with a 64" to learn on with a 30.5" DL.

Some folks drop a little in draw length when going to trad bows. You probably need to stay with a 62 or 64" bow and with your longer draw be aware that past 28"s you will be gaining about 2.5#s of weight for every inch past 28"s you go.

Nice find Be sure and check to make sure the limbs are not twisted and in good shape. And if you end up not liking it for a starter, i was gonna suggest, as someone else already has, the PSE Impala. That's what i started with and I really liked it. And now I shoot a Bear Grizzly....

Thanks Bisch. I have been looking for 64" bows but don't want to spend a lot of money. I'll keep looking for used bows and see if I can find one that size in the $200 and below price range.
