    Building a bow.......

Well I've got a bow building bug. I've also had a knife making bug for several years that's turned somewhat into an obsession I've bought the Bingham plans for all of their bows and I've got a couple of questions.
I've take a fance to the take down recurve, but do you recommend one over the other for a beginner?
Their riser plans seem to be a bit on the bulky side, is this something I can play and experiment with and take down in size some or contour a little more?

I realize this section deals more with shooting tradition, but I know a few of you are into making bows. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would personally recommend starting with a longbow. Much easier to achieve good results in the beginning. I personally built about 300 longs before attempting a curve.

I know well enough by now, when a man knows what he's talking about, its best to listen to him. I will give the long bow a shot. Thanks!

The longbow would definately be easier but it isn't that difficult to build the recurve if you have patience. It took me 30 hours to build my first one and I strayed from the plans quite a bit. I used the length of the riser, shelf placement and fadeout angles and everything else I did my way. I went into it expecting it to be a process. My advice would be if you want a recurve build a recurve. Take your time and review the instructional material several times and refer to it as you do the build. And above all, have fun. This is a great new hobby you have just started!
