Question For Ol Man (Doug): Bowstring Material

    Doug,

Just curious. Both of my bows have Dyna97 bowstrings on them. Which string material offers the least amount of stretch after the bowstring has been on the bow and at least 150 shots have been fired out of the bow?

So far I think the Astroflight or Ultracam are the best... far less stretch

I build D97 strings and pre-stretch them before serving. I have had less than 1/8 BH loss over the life of any string.

I build mine with bcy452x and pad the loops with b50dacron

X2 what Doug said, with the ultracam having just a tad less than astroflight.

Sorry i dont want to hijack this thread but

Did i understand this right: You shoot ultracam Strings with your trad bows?? Isnt this stresing the bows too much?

How many strands do you use? do you make the loops thicker?

I make my strings for my 54# Predator out of 18 strands BCY 8125 with a loopserving out of brownell no4 and diamondback for center..

once im done with the stringand served the loops i put it on the bow and rub it with a piece of leather until it gets warm (this streches the string a bit and makes it very round) then put it at the right braceheight and rub it again correct the BH and then i do the centerserving

I use this string for about 700shots now and i didnt loose any bh..

I make 6 or 8 strand UltraCam and Astroflight strings - I pad the loops and build up the center serving. If your bow is made to handle fastflight it will handle these new materials as well.

I was shooting 8 and 10 strand 8125 strings on #50-#55 recurves. 18 is overkill, 10 strand will gain you a small amount in performance and save you some string material. You should pad the loops to around 14 str.

°.° 6-10 strands strings on recurves, wow this is heavy...

I asked my dealer where i bought the bow from how much strands i should shoot an he said 16-18 bcy8125..

                    i think i have to try a 8 or 10 strand string..
i know how to pad the loops but i have a hard time to build up the center serving

how do you do this? Do you just make 2 or 3 layers of serving or what?

Would you possibly be so kind as to explain it to me?

                    thanks alot

I double serve mine . I serve with .019 and then .026 or .030 on top of that

I don't double serve my strings - I actually put strands under the serving to build it up to match the nocks for any particular arrow!

Skinny strings don't have as much performance gain on recurves as Longbows or self-bows. I have not seen any performance increase below 10 str on my recurve. There has been as much as 12-15% on longbows tjough.
